So, as all of you know, it was Milan fashion week last week and I went online to check out all of my favourite designers’ collections and study on what is in this season. I was so surprised by what I saw all over the runway. Sequins. Yes sequins, that material you put on a mermaid tale costume for a little girl’s birthday party.
When I think of sequins, I see it on a little girl or a Christmas sweater, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who might see that. When I was young in the 2000’s, sequins were worn in such a tacky way that I vowed to never wear them myself. But then, the gods blessed us with Dolce and Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, and just people who know how to make anything look good. Through their innovative pieces, you can see that sequins can be worn in so many ways and you can look sophisticated and chic, just pair them with solid colours and/or structured pieces. And because these sequins can be bought anywhere, you can make your own fun pieces or thrift them, both sustainable. Here are a few examples that I will now bless you with:
